In the wake of Sanctuary Cove, the recent Melbourne Boat Show delivered brilliant results for Chaparral Australia, with principle, Scott O’Hare describing the event as 'very upbeat and positive', heralding a trifecta in Sydney.

As Scott explains: 'Our main emphasis was on H2o in Melbourne showing the full offering for the new entry level range; We also had our 225 Sports cabin, 285 Sports Cabin, 196SSi Premium bow rider and a 224 Xtreme tow boat. With the exception of the 285SC this line up was mostly trailerable whereas Sanctuary Cove included a bigger range of trailerable boats and bigger cruisers.'
The reason for the difference in product lineup, Scott says is the company’s understanding of the buying habits of their local attendees.
'Melbourne is more of a trailer boat show and, although we have sold bigger boats from there before, one has to utilize expensive floor space as wisely as possible. We had success with a full complement of boats at the summer on water show in Melbourne last February, including our flagship 42 Premiere, so Melbourne buyers are not missing out on seeing our cruisers.
'Sanctuary Cove, on the other hand, is renowned as a big boat show, so despite the current market tending to smaller, less expensive boats we will always have big boats on display at SCIBS. Our sales at SCIBS averaged $85K whereas Melbourne was more like $50K.'
In all, Scott says Melbourne was 'a brilliant show'.
'We have 16 boats sold to date and a number of test drives booked in over the next week or so. H2o was the stand out boat for us, but we also sold Premium SSi bowriders an Xtreme tow boat and a couple of 225 Sports Cabins. Interestingly we have also priced up a 420 Premiere and 327SSx from the show.'
With Sydney just one week away, Scott says they will focus on H2o as well as the Chaparral sports cruisers, the big 327SSx rocketship ,premium bowriders and Xtreme tow boats.
'We will have 10 boats in total, inside hall 1 at stand number 189.'
In terms of sales, the aim is to equal last year’s ROI in Sydney. 'We would be very happy if we could duplicate last year’s success, where we sold 22 boats made up of cruisers and Sports cabins and premium bow riders after 40 test drives. H2o will hopefully add to those numbers this year.'
Next on the schedule is Mandurah in WA and a visit to the Auckland show on what Scott describes as 'a fact finding mission' in to the local market, as well as a display at the inaugural Sports boat & PWC Expo in Melbourne, then the Gold Coast International Marine Expo in November.
