ISAF Olympic revolution, Semaine Olympique Francaise, VOR65 and more

49er - London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition
A revolutionary proposal designed to increase the value of Olympic class sailing at all levels is to be presented to the ISAF Council in mid-November 2013 in Oman.

This proposal will have a major impact on the current Olympic Class World Championships which will, if this proposal is accepted, be completely restructured. Under this proposal the existing World Cup circuit will be dismantled as current venue contracts expire and a completely new set of events will replace them.

There are clearly going to be a lot of interest groups who stand to win or lose if this proposal is accepted.

Over the last decade some of the ISAF decisions have been not been as good as they could have been.

Some plainly very ordinary ISAF Olympic Class decisions have been reversed after outcry so it is hoped that MNA’s, Council delegates and Classes and individual Olympic campaigners will spend the time to understand this new proposal. We have the introduction and the presentation on Sail-World now.

The Flying Fifteen Balearic Championship took place on the weekend of 4 - 6 October at the venue of the 2014 Flying Fifteen European Championships in Pollenca, on the island of Majorca. Racing was organised by the Real Club Nautica Port de Pollenca in a stunning bay surrounded by the mountains at the north-eastern tip of the island of Majorca. Some late summer balmy weather and a mixture of shifty breezes provided for some tactical racing amongst a small but competitive fleet.

At this weekend’s Barcolana Race, Esimit Europa’s skipper Jochen Schümann wants to break the course record, which every year attracts around 2,000 boats of all sizes to Trieste in Italy.

'This is the home regatta for Esimit Europa,' said Schümann, who has taken the 30m Maxi yacht on an extensive race tour of Europe during 2013. 'The Barcolana is a very short race, but having up to 2,000 boats on the line makes it very special.'
