RS800 Action at the RS Games in Weymouth - RS800 Nationals 2011
It was a classic opening day for the 59 boats. Racing inside the harbour there was ideal conditions for the twin wire speed boats with 12-15 knots for race one which firmed up for race two to 16-18 knots.
Stevie Wilson and Alain Sign loved the conditions; they blitzed race one to win to have the very definition of a comfortable win in race one. Tom Halhead/Stu Jagger were lying second but lost out on a decent size shift on the third beat, Dave Hivey/James Stewart took full advantage to jump into second but lost this right on the line to Alex Grove/Will Davies.
Race two and the fleet split very left and right up the first beat with the leading group coming from the left again led by Wilson/Sign who went on to lead throughout the race. This time Ian Martin/Jony Clegg, fourth in race one in hot pursuit in second throughout to record a good day. Andy Jeffries/Allyson Ody thrived in the conditions to pull through to third. Hivey/Stewart were fourth to post a very solid first day.
Ian Jubb crewed by Bonnie Moody completed day one of his 12 day mission to take part in every RS class Nationals during the RS Games scoring 42nd and 47th in the two races. They move onto the RS500's today. Of the all girls teams Frances Peters and Nicola Grove are leading in 20th overall; it was a hard day for many of them yesterday.
With the wind very much the same for day two under uniform low grey clouds the word in the dinghy park is already who can beat Wilson/Sign.
