Sail Noumea 2012: TeamVodafone Sailing breaks the race record - Video

TeamVodafoneSailing heads for Noumea on the way to breaking the multihull course record

TeamVodafoneSailing, the ORMA60 trimaran skippered by Simon Hull set a new multihull record for the Auckland Noumea Race, last month. Crew member Stuart MacKinven tells their story and sent this video of their race:

After a frustratingly light start, but TVS managed to wiggle our way past the top of NZ mostly with the genaker sheeted in tight. As the breeze built we hedged east of the rumb line and got some nice reaching angles. Sending it along at around 25kts we managed to get far enough to the NE to get around most of the weather that caused the carnage with the rest of the fleet.

Still a very wet and bumpy ride for a couple of days. On the last days heading into the reefs we got a bit of flat water and managed some nice 12hr runs, the best was 230nm I think. 30nm out from the finish we parked it hard, not a skerrick of puff to be seen, so we flopped along for pretty much the entire day, until we heard the rain on the water, really wet rain!

But thankfully it had enough breeze in it to get us across the line just in time for last drinks at the CNC yacht club.

Thanks to Suellen and her team at the RAYC for a really well run race, also to Phillipe and the crew of the CNC in Noumea for the great hospitality and all the help during our stay.
