Snipe Worlds - Tensions rise

Snipe Junior Worlds
.
On the penultimate day of racing at the 2011 Snipe Class World Championships tempers were beginning to fray a little. Whilst race number 6 took place in according to the book things didn't improve for the fleet or the Race Committee during the rest of the day.

The penultimate day of racing at the 2011 Snipe World Champnships hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club in association with Espergaerde Yacht Club provided both great racing and increased tension for the leading sailors. Race 6 of the event being staged on the waters off from Rungsted Harbour, North of the Danish Capital, Copenhagen, took place in ideal conditions. With a very full wind and level seas the fleet would have been confident of completing the planned three races without too much fuss.

However the Race Committee were seriously vexed in trying to lay a workable course for Race 7 by a wind that went from reliable to 'shifts that shifted on themselves' as one wag put it. The PRO did start the seventh race but was forced to abandon it and will now try to get three races away on the final day. The conditions at the end of the day clearly had an effect on everyone's sense of humour as the protests flew at the close of play and the final results of Race 6 will be with us when the dust settles! The 2011 Snipe Class World Championships conclude tomorrow (Saturday).

11 Aug. 2011 report

Great sailing on a rainy day gave another 3 races and brought Mario Urban and Rafael Sapucaia from Brasil on the top of the leaderboard

The first day of racing at the Snipeworlds in Rungsted was windy at forced the race committee to postpone sailing to late afternoon with only one race being done. Today the wind condition was perfect with a shifting onshore breeze with 10-12 knots. Unfortunately in rained all day, so it was some cold sailors getting back to shore. The top fleet is dominated by Brazil and Spain holding the top six, lead by the Brazilian crew Mario Urban and Rafael Sapucaia who so far has been the most stable in the tricky conditions.
