Waiting for Sunday morning and a bigger week ahead

There are four Australians in the eleven man USA defending team in the 34th America’s Cup.
After Magnetic Island Race Week, the Sail-World Team has spent a lot of time in the air, ahead of the 34th America´s Cup about to start in San Francisco. We voted at Sydney International Airport midweek and now we have a big Sail-World team working 24x7 ready to bring you all the action.

There were some gut wrenching days in the Red Bull Youth America's Cup for the Objective Australia AC45 team led by Jason Waterhouse, with significant supplied equipment issues robbing them of the chances they deserved. But what does not kill you makes you stronger and this talented group will now return to their own classes just a little closer to immortal.

The America's Cup defender Oracle's team has four Australians in its eleven man team on the water. It is led by James Spithill with Tom Slingsby, young Kyle Langford (replacing the banned Dirk de Ridder) and jib trimmer Joey Newton.

While Richard Gladwell has been warning us that the impact of the Oracle 45 kingpost affair could have a dramatic impact on the America's Cup itself, I have to admit I really did not believe it. That was quite some Jury decision and taking two races from the Cup event itself is pretty breathtaking.

Oracle has to win eleven races on San Francisco Bay to defend the Cup and that looks like a tall order, against the rampaging Kiwis.

As we saw in the Luis Vuitton finals, the AC72's are high maintenance boats so we can expect to see some of the races won and lost with equipment issues.

So it’s going to be a drama filled event. You might remember the first entry into the prestart box in the America’s Cup off Valencia but we suspect that will be nothing compared to what will happen at Saturday 1.15 pm USA West coast time. (4.15am Sunday morning Sydney time)

We will be bringing you dedicated America´s Cup newsletters late on the weekend, on Monday and thru the series. Stay with the Sail-world team for all the live action, replays, analysis, images and interviews.

Overnight Australia's Tristan Brown has taken the Laser Radial World Championships and over the weekend we will bring you more news and images from Magnetic Island.
