Powerboat-World Editorial, Oct 8 '08

Welcome to another edition of Powerboat-World.com weekly news wrap.

We managed a sneak preview inside the Maritimo R and D department and have seen the massive plug being constructed, which will be used to produce the mould that will result in the Maritimo 73 Sky Lounge, a 50-tonne masterpiece boasting 3000hp and a top speed of 36-knots-plus.

We're also in the midst of the Australian Offshore Powerboat Club's Superboat Series and the club here provides a brief explanation of the competing classes.

On the Gold Coast, one of the major attractions at this time of the year is the whale watching cruises, affording a close up (not too close!) view of the magnificent creatures as they make their way north.

Whale watching has just become a little more high-tech as colleague Rob Mundle reveals one of the newest vessels to take to the tourist scene.

Our congratulations, together with our thanks, go to the recipients of Maritime Medals announced in Sydney earlier in the week; deserved recognition for a good bunch of blokes.
