Quantum Racing Celebrate winning the 2008 AUDI Medcup 14th Breitling Regatta in Puerto Portals  Ian Roman/Audi Medcup ©
Welcome to Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 9 May 2009.

In this issue we have another round of letters released by the America's Cup protagonists. While all very fascinating, the America's Cup is on hold until the NY Supreme Court Hearing on 14 May.

After that decision, we should have some clear indication of the timeframe for the 33rd America's Cup. Maybe that will bring a sharp focus to the event.

In the middle of next week the Audi MedCup kicks off in Alicante, with 13 teams on the startline for the first first event. It will be the debut for Emirates Team New Zealand, the first of the America's cup teams to convert to the TP52 circuit -however they have had some problems getting to the startline as we reveal in this issue.

The other pressing question is whether USA's Quantum Racing will continue her domination of last year, and become the first team to win the overall trophy in successive years.

PUMA Ocean Racing, skippered by Ken Read (USA) finish fourth on leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race, from Rio de Janeiro to Boston, crossing the finish line at 23:12:42 GMT 26/04/09  Dave Kneale/Volvo Ocean Race ©

In Boston the In-Port Race of the Volvo Ocean Race gets underway today. The performance of the home crew, PUMA Racing will be watched with great interest as she endeavours to turn on a wining performance for her home town fans.

We will bring you coverage of this event on www.Sail-World.com
