This newsletter is heavy on pictures, but no apologies. Phuket Raceweek turned out to be a cliff-hanger, and was raced under blue skies, fluffy white clouds and sunshine, which made for good pictures. There are also pictures of the new Alinghi 5 'spider', the MedCup in Cagliari, a (non-fatal) disaster San Francisco, the iShares Cup at Cowes Week, and the 29er Worlds.

Six Senses Phuket Raceweek is one of 'Asia's Finest'
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
Phuket Raceweek first-timer Ray Roberts and his regular crew – sailing the same trusty DK46, but now re-named ‘Evolution Sails', today raced well enough to deny the Racing Division title to another PRW ‘novice', Neil Pryde. But Roberts didn't have it all his own way – in sparkling sunshine and no more than 8 knots of breeze, Hi Fi and Team Pryde scored two bullets... [more]

Wish You Were Here. Six Senses Phuket Raceweek
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
We have great racing in Hong Kong, but so often we can't see the scenery at all. The atmospherics just don't cut the mustard. I have to bring my camera to Phuket on regular visits (hooray!) just to make sure that the clever electronics inside can still see blue stuff. They can, and here's the proof.... [more]

Alinghi 5 - from A to Zee
JPJ - Sail-World,
Sail-World's Swiss correspondent gives his impressions of the America's Cup Defender, Alinghi 5, launched just last week in le Bouveret: 'Alinghi 5 have been out sailing four days now and although the wind hardly ever reach above 10 knots, we have a pretty good idea on the boat itself and how things work in its actual configuration. Let's review the boat starting with a few design comments.... [more]

You can't have too much of a good thing: Six Senses Phuket Raceweek
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
The palm trees were awake and waving before 0800 hrs this morning, and the view from the breakfast terrace at the Evason Resort was nothing short of glorious. Blue sky, sunshine, breeze – heck, putting away the camera and going sailing seemed like a great idea. But that would have made this report a little tricky to write...... [more]

Flat out and full on at Six Senses Evason Phuket Raceweek
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
Today's racing at the Six Senses Phuket Raceweeek fell firmly into the file marked It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This! Breeze on the water, plenty to start racing on schedule (10.00 hrs) and enough rays to dig out the sunblock and make everyone happy. The wind was out of the south and south west, so it was monsoon stuff, but it didn't bring in the heavy duty rain squalls that we saw yesterda... [more]

New faces in the crowd included Neil Pryde and the crew of Hi Fi, keen to defend their AYGP crown right from the beginning of the season, with Ray Roberts (Evolution Sails, formerly Quantum Racing) there to keep them honest (and try to knock them off the perch).
