Sail-World USA: 01 July 2009

Anna Tunnicliffe - upwind through the waves - Laser Radial World Championship 2009  International Laser Class Association
Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA's newsletter for 01 August 2009

In Japan, the Womens Laser Radial Worlds have concluded with USA's 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist taking the silver medal, behind Sari Multala (Finland) who did not compete at the 2008 Olympics and finished 20th overall in the 2008 World Championships in Takapuna.

We have reports, images and results in this issue.

Off the English coast, an incredible trans Atlantic match race has been staged between two giant multihulls - Groupama and Banque Populaire.

Both seem certain to break the old mark, and may even cross in less than four days.

Groupama 3 set a new world 24 hour speed record yesterday, only to have that mark beaten by Banque Populaire, who cracked the 900nm in 24 hours barrier.

In this issue we have reports from Groupama 3, who are also including Banque Populaire in their coverage.

On the America's Cup front, Alinghi was the star of the show on Swiss National Day. We have two reports and plenty of images in this issue. No further information on the venue - which will be announced on 6 August.

We are pleased to report that Sail-World did indeed crack through the 150,000 unique viewer mark for July. In fact we gained another 20,000 unique viewers in the month of July peaking at over 165,000 UV's, and Sail-World's readership increased by 60,000 visits in July to a new record of 367,000 for the month.

Good sailing!
