Racing in the Chicago Match Cup   CMRC - Chicago Match Race Center
Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 23 August 2009

Extremes of weather affected two USA's international yachting campaigns.

In Portiamo, Portugal, the fourth round of the Audi MedCup came to a grinding halt when the breeze failed to eventuate. Defending champion, Quantum Racing (USA) has a challenge ahead to finish top of the points table for this round. Currently she is 6.5pts off the pace, in third overall behind Artemis (SWE) with favorite US son, Paul Cayard aboard and calling the shots.

Second placed in Portugal, Emirates Team New Zealand enjoy a substantial lead in the overall trophy with one more round left to sail. She is on the market listed at 950,00 Euro ($1.3m), if you want to make a small addition to your fleet.

In this issue we detail the MedCup racing - with plenty of images and we outline the changes planned for the class, and event, over the next two years.

In Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, a hurricane has threatened the 2009 Laser World Championships. With three days racing complete, and just four races sailed, the regatta is expected to go on hold until Hurricane Bill has passed by, or through the venue. Clayton Johnson is the top placed US competitor in 34th overall, with Brad Funk in 41st overall.

US crews took the top three places in the North Americans and will be looking for a strong performance in their home waters.
