Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 2 September 2009

Just out is the media announcement that the Louis Vuitton World Series will go ahead, with more to come on 8 September at a formal media conference.

Just as important is the announcement of the formation of a World Sailing Teams Association, comprising the major professional sailing teams. Already eight teams have joined the association, which will bring a single collective voice to professional sailing matters, and should bring an end to the dictates of those who believe they are bigger than the sport.

In this issue we have carried the official release from Louis Vuitton, and also republished our story of over two months ago, outlining how the series would be spliced together.

Good news for the USA is that one of the regattas on the Louis Vuitton World series will be held in New York.

In San Francisco, the annual 18ft skiff International is well underway, with some of the leading skippers being older than your humble scribe! We have all the action in this issue along with some excellent images from Erik Simonson of MarineAllianceMedia.

In this issue we feature the second in the series previewing the next round of America's Cup legal action expected anytime now in the New York Supreme Court - looking at the issue of the venue, measurement rules, and 'friendly competition'.

BMW Oracle Racing is one of eight teams in the World Sailing Team association  Richard Gladwell

At present the sailing world feels like it is on the bottom of the ruck, feeling the boot put into the premier event in the sport on almost a daily basis. However stepping away from all that, and looking back at life when it is over, the 33rd America's Cup is a hell of a story. Great, spectacular boats, intrigue by the sewer-full, and only a fraction of the story has been told. Someone will no doubt write the definitive book...

Manson Supreme winner of Yacht Skipper anchoring test
Congratulations to Manson Anchors on having the Manson Supreme winning an independent anchor test ahead of several other models sold in New Zealand. The test was conducted by the prestigious German Yacht Skipper magazine - see the story in this issue and catch the YouTube clip of a Manson Supreme on the job in 70-80kts in the Straits of Magellan. This clip has had 25,000 viewings so far!

Good sailing!
