Sail-World USA: 17 September 2009

Chicago Match Race Center's September A regatta  CMRC - Chicago Match Race Center
i>Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 17 September 2009

More on the America's Cup and Louis Vuitton World Series scene, with the announcement that Team Origin (GBR) will be joining the Louis Vuitton World Series and will also be competing on the Audi MedCup Series next year (as will Emirates Team New Zealand). Other announcements are expected to bring the LVWS/World Sailing Teams Association group up to ten or more teams.

There has been no announcement from the International Sailing Federation, following its Executive Committee Meeting in the weekend in Copenhagen, Denmark on the new event, or indeed whether an application has in fact been made to the world body. Neither is there any mention of the new event on the ISAF website news, although every other online sailing news service in the world has covered the new creation in some detail.

The same topic is discussed in our E-Mailbag, with some interesting contributions.

Meanwhile Alinghi 5 is in the process of loading aboard a freighter headed presumably for Ras Al Khaimah in UAE.

The controversial agreement between the International Sailing Federation and Societe Nautique de Geneve burst unexpectedly into the daylight with the ISAF and SNG deciding to release the hitherto 'secret' document just before telephone conference was due to be convened between the parties. Co-incidentally the release came just a day after Sailing Scuttlebutt's America's Cup correspondent, Cory Friedman, claimed to have obtained a copy via publicly available sources and had advised the New York Supreme Court, of its existence before he re-published the document himself. We have a look at some of the issues in this edition and Golden Gate YC have provided their laundry list.

The Skandia Go for Gold regatta has run into very fresh breezes costing one race day. We have several reports in this issue as competitors get their first taste of the 2012 Olympic venue.

After losing two days of racing in the Audi MedCup in Cartagena, Spain, the breeze came back with a vengeance along with some tricky seas - providing some great opportunities for the photographers. Catch the galleries in this issue.

Many thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.

Good sailing!
