Sail-World USA: 24 November 2009

Alinghi 5 churning out the miles in Ras al-Khaimah  Guido Trombetta/Team Alinghi
Welcome to Sail-World.Com's US newsletter for 24 November 2009

Plenty of video in this edition. There's a must see of BMW Oracle Racing's America's Cup Challenger, BOR90, sailing in San Diego - maybe yesterday or earlier in the week. There are some great sequences of the supertri flying a hull in relatively light wind speeds. Make sure you keep an eye each day on Fox5 in San Diego for the live webcam - which has been running some tremendous sequences as BOR90 pirouettes on San Diego Bay.

The ability of the 115ft trimaran to literally turn on a dime is quite remarkable - recalling that famous quote of Muhammad Ali 'floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee'.

And don't miss the opportunity to step aboard Alinghi 5 for a training sail off Ras al-Khaimah (UAE), we feature a gallery of just-posted onboard images of the America's Cup Defender.

Oman Sail Masirah Day 4 Hong Kong - Extreme Sailing Series Asia  Guy Nowell /OC Events ©

We have been providing daily coverage of the LVT in Sail-World, and in this edition have featured a video wrap up of clips from the regatta from the team at BTS who have done a good job with a mix of interviews and overboard action. You can also review the racing action from the the Virtual Eye team by going to www.Youtube.com and doing a search on virtualeyesailing.

Speed records have been very much in vogue, check out another video feature, posted last week of a kitesailer against the spectacular French hydrofoiler l'hydroptere, including overhead shots. Is she beamy?

Paul Cayard on Katusha RC 44 Gold Cup - Dubai 2009  Raffaello Bastiani / RC44 Class Association

Paul Cayard reports in from the fleet racing - owner/driver section of the RC44 Gold Cup regatta in Dubai. Racing gets underway today, and as we write the match racing competition is under postponement.

The former America's Cup Challenger, Ayre Challenge has announced their new Volvo Ocean Race program covering the next three editions of the VOR. While the America's Cup languishes in the New York Courtrooms, and there is little talk of what will happen for 34AC, more professional sailing teams are expected to move to other theatres - rather than sit around, and eventually die in the waiting room.

You can submit your event/regatta/class/boat news by Clicking Here - all copy will be published, please include a photo or three with a side over 1280px wide. There's a new big icon on the home page of www.sail-world.com to make it even easier for you. You will now be automatically informed when your submission has been posted and which regions it has been posted to - a great way to get exposure for your club, class, event, program or campaign.

Many thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.

Good sailing!
