New Zealander Neville Crichton pre-start said it does not really matter who wins the start in the 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart.

You would never has guessed that as he and his Alfa Romeo crew made sure they rounded the Victor mark at Sydney Heads three lengths ahead of the Wild Oats XI, the boat that beat them in the same race in 2005.

Neville and his team are sailing with intent – they might only be a few miles ahead but they plan to stay that way right to the finish line.

Today is the day this race will be won or lost as tactician's place the boats for the transitions pasted the major current eddies and into Bass Strait.
