Welcome to Sail-World Canada

The America's Cup is back in America

I am so pleased to be back on a regular sleeping pattern, particularly after a frustrating week of getting up very early only to find out the much anticipated America's Cup was delayed or cancelled for various reasons. In the end, the racing was excellent, with all the excitement we have come to expect from this match racing format: start sequence penalties; a yacht stuck in irons before the start; awesome chases on the water; and amazing boat speed in light air. In a short, two-race series, BMW Oracle was quickly able to demonstrate their superiority on the water in relatively light conditions; this is particularly interesting as Alinghi 5 was originally developed as a light air machine for the original venue in the Persian Gulf.

The America's Cup is now back at the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Diego and the new Defender, BMW Oracle, is already entertaining the media with comments about the future of the America's Cup. Russell Coutts commented yesterday that the event would be run independently from BMW Oracle; he also explained that they would avoid repeating errors from the past and have an open dialog with all participants. This bodes well for the future of ‘the Cup'.

Yachts positions are constantly changing in the East China Sea where the Clipper Round the World fleet is now heading North towards Qingdao; in the meantime Team Finland is now docked in Taiwan assessing damages to the top of their rig. Come and visit the website over the next few days as we get caught up with the Cape Breton Island crew stories and photos.

Again, many thanks for your stories; we look forward to helping you promote your sailing events...

Jules Verne Trophy - Groupama 3 in the thick of it and behind record
Groupama-Cammas,

Groupama 3 had to reposition herself slightly to the South just before crossing the longitude of Cape Agulhas, in order to avoid a zone of confluence where the breeze was light.
