Editorial

Oh boy, what a week the Powerboat-World team is facing – on Tuesday (May 18) we join what will be (probably) more than 100 industry leaders at the Southport Yacht Club for the annual industry luncheon.

I guess you could call it a ‘training run' for what will follow, that being the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show opening just two days later (May 20-23).

Life can be so, well tough, but someone has to be in there holding up the flag.

PAY ATTENTION NOW!! You are absolutely crazy if you don't enter the ‘Win a Lifetime of Free Berthing competition here today. The Prize is valued at over AUD$300,000 and it only runs to the end of Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in 9 days time!!.

The prize is, at maximum, a 16m berth at any of Meridien Marinas locations including Abel Point Marina at Airlie Beach, Port Douglas and the Gold Coast, for a term of up to 25 years.

A berth at Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach wont be much cheaper than the Gold Coast either in 2030 - Sail-World.com -AUS © Click Here to view large photo

Can you imagine what a Gold Coast 16 metre berth will cost in 2030 and don't imagine Airlie Beach or Port Douglas will be much cheaper

With airfares ever reducing, you don't have to live in Queensland or even own or part-own a boat yet, but certainly one big step towards the cost of a boat will disappear if you are the winner!! You can imagine if you do win it, you are going to be popular with mates, who will no doubt want you to join their big boat syndicate.

Think about it!!! But of course you have to enter to win!!

Promotion runs until the end of the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show 2010 in late May

One point, dear readers (I know there's more than one of you, hence the plural), if you can't make it to Sanctuary Cove, right here on the Queensland Gold Coast, do not despair; whatever of interest transpires at the cove will make it to the pages of Powerboat-World.

Gee, we look after all you people out there; take a look at our fabulous competition, surely no one would knock back a life time of free berthing (or slipping to our North American mates).

Also, we alert the bargain hunters out there for another marine auction being staged next week by Adrian Seiffert at the Runaway Bay Marina.

And Family Boats in Sydney's western suburbs is holding a Haines demo day on the Paramatta River at the end of the month. Worth a call if you are in the market. see the add banner above this editorial.

We also have a brief look at the catamaran claimed to be the ‘most recognisable boat' on the US offshore circuit, ‘Miss Geico', backed up with some great action shots from Stacey Killmaier.

And here's what might be termed an ‘exclusive announcement' – Jessica Watson, the tiny 16-year-old Queenslander, will be the official guest at the 2010 Sydney International Boat Show (July 29-August 2).

Now Jessica might not be a powerboat identity, given that she has just circumnavigated the world under sail, solo and unassisted, but I'll wager she knows more about engines than the vast majority of 16-year-od girls (not to mention men of all ages! I said NOT to mention men).

Keeping it feminine, we have a chat with a quite remarkable lady, Kylie Short (who also happens to be a ‘good sort', and that's too hard to translate for our American mates).

Kylie has taken the reins at Andrew Short Marine in a very firm manner and the company former by her late husband, Andrew Short Marine, is destined to be going places.

So, there you go, step aboard and take a load off........trust you get some enjoyment from the read and stop by for the full take on the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

See you next week, same place, same time (or thereabouts) or at Sanctuary Cove.
