Lots of big-name events in the news these past few days, but most important for Asia is the announcement of the Qingdao Match Cup, a new stop on the World Match Racing Tour. Qingdao's continuing efforts to make itself China's pre-eminent sailing city make this a pretty obvious port of call for the WMRT.

There are now three major match racing events contested in Asia - Qingdao Match Cup (Qingdao, China), Monsoon Cup (Terengganu, Malaysia), and Korea Match Cup (Jeong-gok, Korea). Another event slated for Vietnam fell off the radar recently, but WMRT management are hopeful that it will resurface in due course. Along with the forthcoming Louis Vuitton Trophy event in Hong Kong (January 2011), further confirmation - if any were needed - that there are an awful lot of people looking in the general direction of Asia these days.

Hong Kong's Karl Kwok continues to 'tick the boxes' with his latest incarnation of Beau Geste, by knocking off the Bermuda Ocean Race, and the 'other' Round the Island Race (around the Isle of Wight, UK) again attracted a huge fleet. And there was a slightly smaller fleet - but no less enthusiasm - for the Summer Sailstice in Shanghai. Read all about it...
