AIMEX Awards impress, boat show countdown, carbon zero boat

The recent trials of US solo sailor, Abby Sunderland, were certainly etched the deeper in the media and Abby's own disappointment as they followed so closely the achievement of Jessica Watson. Thankfully, Abby was rescued none the worse for wear and just as determined to experience her own world circumnavigation, following in the wake of her brother, Zac and other young adventurers.

Sail-world.com this week has a great story written by Pete Thomas who was onboard with her during the preparation of her yacht for the grand attempt. Make sure to check it out.

Also this week, amazing boats, world firsts and some advances in sustainable and 'greener' options for ships and leisure craft, including the phenomenal Black Magic zero carbon vessel from Sauter Carbon Offset Design in the UK - some insight into concepts to come.

AIMEX is tallying the votes now for entrants into the 2010 Australian Marine Industry Export Awards, to be announced Thursday 29 July at a cocktail event sponsored by Club Marine. We will bring you all the winners and why post-SIBS.

The countdown is on for Sydney International Boat Show, booked out and occupying record space inside and on the marina. The indefatiguable Domenic Genua from the BIA NSW has just landed back from an IFBSO conference of international boat show organisers and later in the week, will reveal the latest trends plus how SIBS stacks up on the world stage.

For her part, Jessica Watson will be at the Sydney International Boat Show this year, along with a stellar lineup of sailing and boating names. Watch this space for all the latest on the attractions and innovations for this year's event.

That's to look forward to later this week, so pop back regularly for all the relevant industry news and views.
