Match Racing, IRC, dinghies - All the latest news

Welcome and thanks for reading our UK newsletter this week. While many minds are on football, there has none the less been a lot of sailing going on.

Ian Williams and his Team GAC Pindar crew are into the semi finals at Match Cup Portugal, The IRC National Chamopionships are happening on the Solent after a windy start, the Shetland Round Britain & Ireland Race yachts are crossing the finish line and Dee Caffari is preparing for the next leg of the Vuelta España a Vela, Round Spain Race.

470 duo Sarah Ayton and Saskia Clark and 49er duo John Pink and Rick Peacock collected gold in Kiel and what a great effort by Lucy Hodges and Toby Davey at the IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championships.

Internationally, the SuperYacht Cup is happening again in Palma, the Melges Class seems to have events on all over the place and Ran has taken the Onion Patch Series with their Newport Bermuda result.

Vuelta España a Vela, Round Spain Race. A hive of activity as Leg 5 Calpe to Palma starts Sunday. The leg starts Sunday at midday with a short stage in the bay of Calpe. The first mark is 1.5 miles across in front of the town beach, to the Punta Toix, then back across to a passing mark under the Peñon de Ifach rock, then it is directly to Palma, leaving Ibiza and Formentera to port.... IFDS Blind Match Racing Championships were sailed today in four – six knots of southerly on Lake Garda. It is only at the top levels of this discipline for totally blind sailors that crews have the ability to closely engage with another boat. Britain's Ran takes Onion Patch Series with Newport Bermuda result

Ran was the individual winner of the Onion Patch Series in results posted today [Friday]. Niklas Zennstrom scored 2-1 in the New York YC Regatta, 10 in the Newport Bermuda Race. and 3-2 in the RBYC Anniversary Regatta for a total of 18 points and wins the Henry B. du Pont Trophy for the best scoring individual yacht participating in the series....
