Green threat to boating, Sydney in 8 sleeps, Keppel Bay 5 Gold Anchors
One week before the 43rd Sydney International Boat Show, dealers, brokers, brands and boaties are preparing for Australia's major boating exhibition. What are the highlights this year? Well, according to Mr SIBS himself, Domenic Genua, they are too numerous to list and include the likes of Jessica Watson, Don McIntyre, Sean Smith (‘the Fat Paddler') and the Norris Family who will share their remarkable boating journeys at the show and offer the audience a firsthand insight into these personal experiences which changed their lives.
There's also the photographic competition and display, historical boat displays, Musto fashion show, Discover Boating Tours of Sydney Harbour, the iconic Walk of Fame and the Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance Fishing Clinic for the estimated 70,000 visitors to see and learn more about the various activities associated with recreational boating.
So get to Sydney one way or another and celebrate our marine lifestyle!
Also in the news this week, along with the launches, innovations and products to look out for in Sydney, the sobering stats from Qld Maritime Safety which show 12 more fatalities on the state's waterways than the year prior, prompting some in the industry to call for stricter licensing guidelines.
A former British sailing champion has brought Australia's premier Laser dealership. It's a good read. Great images too, thanks to the expertise of Andrea Francolini. Is that the kind of image quality you use in your business? Your brand and message would benefit from professional standard images as required by all media outlets, which in most cases, just means investment in a good camera or an expert who wields a good camera.
Congratulations to Marina at Keppel Bay, the first marina in Asia to be awarded the MIAA '5 Gold Anchors' for excellence in service and facilities, following its recognition as Best Asian Marina at the recent Asian Boating Awards. Singapore is certainly a burgeoning destination, and will also welcome the world's superyacht fraternity for the Informa Yacht Group's Asia Superyacht Conference in October 2010 at ONEº15 Marina Club.
In the US, the Gulf of Mexico gushing undersea oil rig has been at least temprarily plugged, and now the clean up begins. In its official 'Gulf 20/20' report, Nature Conservancy recommends a 'to do' list that seems both practical and far sighted, placing the responsiblity squarely on government agencies and industry (oil and marine) to prevent disasters of a similar magnitude from contaminating sensitive marine landscapes.
Back home, and a federal election always brings into sharp focus the issues of the day, marine parks and the Green agenda just some of those affecting our industry. Keep in touch with you views on these topics.
Have a sensational week and see you at SIBS!
