Vela Veloce is NYYC Race Week Winner

The Great Lakes major offshore racing events are drawing to a close with a slow finish on the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac race where the winds are not cooperating with the back of the fleet. The Bayview to Mackinac and Lake Ontario 300 are wrapping up their events announcing trophy winners and posting photos and videos on their website.

The young sailors participating in SailEAST, in Sydney NS, were treated to perfect conditions in the Sydney harbor. In Port Credit, participants in the Steerers' and Four Sisters regattas had to contend with more challenging Lake Ontario conditions, including getting off the water when the squalls that decimated the Lake Ontario 300 fleet came through.

Paul Cayard and crew on board Artemis had a perfect final race to clinch the regatta in the third event of the 2010 Audi MedCup in Barcelona. With Artemis leading by a single point ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand going into the final race, their odds didn't look very good when they rounded the first windward mark in eight place; Cayard and team found clear air on the downwind legs to win the Conde de Godó Trophy. The TP52 fleet heads to Cartagena next month for the fourth event in the series.

New Brunswick's Richard Oland collected his second Rolex watch this year when Vela Veloce, his Southern Cross 52, was named Overall Winner at the prestigious New York Yacht Club Race Week event in Newport, RI. Vela Veloce won IRC Class 2 with an impressive score line of four first places and two seconds, enough to be awarded the 2010 Rolex US-IRC National Champion; a great achievement from a strong supporter of IRC racing. Congratulations Richard!

See you on the water!
