Welcome to this week's edition of our Sail-World.com newsletter.

Ben and Jenny Vines are the new Firefly National Champions, ICAP Leopard will challenge the Round Britain and Ireland Race Record which is currently held by Thomas Colville. However Sidney Gavignet on Oman Air is presently well into his attempt to break that record too.

And at the Rolex Commodores' Cup the Irish team were never headed.

Ireland is gearing up for the Etchells World Championship, 127 Dart 18's will compete at the Worlds at Weymouth and Portland Academy, we have news from the Cadet Nationals and the Solo Nationals ... and so much more.

Oman Air continues to make good progress heading north towards the Shetland Isles. Skipper Sidney Gavignet is preparing to head into a big low pressure system which will see him tackle forecasted gusts of over 40 knots. Midway through the race, the wind dropped off, allowing Sam 'Half Pint' Blocksidge to take the lead. Places changed constantly for the next lap, but Half Pint managed to hold his lead to the end.... Aethon, the new wing for the C Class catamaran was revealed, trialed, and withdrawn this week. Control system problems caused damage to the wing's airfoil surfaces. These were too extensive to be repaired and tested before the start of the International C Class Catamaran Championship on August 22. Worst possible touristic conditions but perfect sailing on the second day of J24 in Malmoe. Light and tricky winds in the first race was followed by broaches and breakage in the second, both races in heavy rain. Another British Champion in Toronto this weekend

There was another British champion in Toronto on Sunday. The 8 Meter yacht Lafayette owned by Murdoch McKillop of the Royal Northern Yacht Club in Rhu and crewed by fellow members captained by Allan Manuel won the North American Championship sailed on the waters of Lake Ontario in a five race series. Their main opposition was Sarisa owned and sailed by Ralph Reiman of the Royal Canadian Yacht club... [more]
