Sail-World New Zealand: 13 September 2010

Sailing aboard the J class, Ranger (J5). Final race of the Rolex Maxi Worlds in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.   Chris Cameron
Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 13 September 2010

Great news for Kiwis from the match racing circuits over the weekend.

Like the All Black over Australia game on Saturday night, Blackmatch Racing also pulled the rug out from under the Australians, in Denmark, taking out the Danish Open in a come from behind win, in the final race of the series.

We have reports and images on the event in this edition, including report from Blackmatch themselves. Skipper Adam Minoprio sums up the final race: 'That was the best match race we've been in. We looked to be up against it when the scores were 2-2 and we were trailing but I'm really pleased that we had the skill to stay in there and catch them. The result is so important for us as we were lying third coming into the Danish Open. Now we can look forward to Bermuda and try and close the gap more on (Tour Leader) Matthieu Richard.'

A second New Zealand match racing team, Full Metal Jacket Racing were also competing in the regatta, but the young team were eliminated before the semi-finals. We have their viewpoint on the regatta in this edition.

In USA, the NZL Sailing Team crew for the Olympic Womens Match Racing event are leading midway through the regatta, with some very good crews in their wake.

We have reports from the team in this edition, and will be continuing coverage over the final stages of the regatta.

Top international sailing photographer, Chris Cameron has been at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup regatta in Puerto Cervo, Sardinia, and has been filing some great images from the event. Overnight he was lucky enough to be invited to sail aboard the J-class yacht Ranger, and we share his images of that experience with you in this edition.

Tonight, New Zealand time, the announcement of the Year, Boat and Protocol to be used for the 34th America's Cup will be announced in Valencia, Spain, by Golden Gate Yacht Club and the Challenger, Club Nautico di Roma. Sail-World will be running all night, (NZT) to bring you details of the announcement and their implications, coverage of the announcement itself, and then a media teleconference with BMW Oracle Racing's CEO, Russell Coutts.

The venue will be announced later in the year, however the Year announced tonight should give us some clues as to the options.

After the announcement proceedings have wrapped up, tonight, Sail-World will produce a one-off America's Cup newsletter summarising the day and build-up stories that have been run over the past week or two, so you can step back and see it all in context. We'll be updating the developing story, tomorrow, Tuesday on www.sail-world.com. Technology willing, you should have full coverage when you wake up in the morning.

In the final chapter to the buildup, we have run the commentary from the very well connected Stuart Alexander, yachting correspondent for the UK newspaper, the Independent. Stuart always has his finger on the pulse of the America's Cup, as well as other major sailing events and players, and this story is a must read.

At Sail-World, we have changed our submission system so that you can load images and stories in the one frame. The change is a big improvement and we have been using it ourselves for story and image compilation - very simple. One of the features of the system is that you get an automated acknowledgment when the story is put online together with a link and advice as to which world regions the story has been posted.

Thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.

Good sailing!
