Welcome aboard and a Happy New Year to all as we unveil the first Powerboat-World newsletter for 2011.
No prizes for guessing that news is a little scarce at this time of year with many of the industry's leading identities, factories and dealership enjoying their Christmas/New Year vacation time.
Never fear, we're on to what ever is going on that brings interest to powerboat people.
It's now only a few weeks to the first major boat show of the calendar year, that of the Miami International Boat Show and for a number of reasons, outlined here, all eyes will be on the Florida city and the 70th staging of the show.
On the home front, the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships calendar for the 2011 season has been released and we take a look and briefly preview what is shaping as a bumper season.

Safety is always a consideration and prominent manufacturer Burke Marine has released a new PFD well worthy of inspection.
Colleague Jeni Bone brings to out attention the world's first (wait for it!) Zero Carbon Life Support Vessel (whew!).
Down south, Victoria's Department of Fisheries has ‘put he bite' on five people who thought they could sneak under the radar and fish illegally.
Also, according to the eminent people of the CSIRO (That's Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) tell us that the climate is warming up, despite what ot terms 'ups and down.'
Me, I'm not going to get into that, I am yet to be totally convinced anyone can change the climate, given what is not happening at a political level.
But who am I to know?
I'm just an old powerboat guy who knows the difference between a good day and a crook day and turns the lights off when I leave the room.
