Aussie dollar spikes sales, Korea means business, Marina OTY finalists

In what surely must be handy for people planning overseas trips, the Australian dollar hit a record high since its float back in 1983, breaking through parity to top $1.02 yesterday.

Exporters may be shuddering, but the entire retail landscape is adjusting to a new age of online consumer confidence, as people shop in all quarters of the world for all manner of goods.

A study released late last year showed six out of 10 exporters believe a high Australian dollar is hurting their sales.
There is some glimmer of hope, in that many manufacturers who import their raw materials are enjoying very good rates and are stockpiling while the dollar is high.

This week we look at the trends driving online sales, and cover the 'words of warning' from local dealers and brands for consumers seeking 'a bargain' out in the ether.

We also look at the role of boat shows in selling boats (thanks to our man in Miami, Bob Wonders), some amazing reasons to invest in the first ever beach and marina front properties released on Hayman Island, and the Korea International Boat Show shifting focus to position its event as a serious business opportunity for the industry.

SYBA has announced that Austrade Chief Executive, Mr Peter Grey will be among its keynote speakers at the Australian Superyacht and Marine Export Conference, 17 & 18 May at Sanctuary Cove immediately prior to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

There are plenty of great features and news on our site this week, from all over the globe. More each day, so visit regularly.

Have a great week!

Low DSC connect rate:Sailor irresponsibility or technological failure?
Des Ryan,
Recently we published a story about how few yachts had their Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipped VHF radio connected to their GPS so that their position would be recorded in an emergency.
