AC72 Pitchpole – Story, Pix and Video

Tactician Tom Slingsby reported - 'We called for a bear-away as we were out training. The winds were blowing about 25 knots, and there was strong ebb current at the time. We started the bear-away, and as the boat accelerated it pitch-poled.

'When the nose went down, the wing hit and a few guys went in the water. We were unsure if the wing would snap, so we all climbed off the boat.

'Luckily, everyone is accounted for and no one was hurt. The wing is pretty badly damaged,

Today we are running one of the interesting back stories from the 2012 Heaven Can Wait 2012 - Tracking the Marks.
In the middle of a very dark and raining heavy weather night at Heaven Can Wait 2011, one of the 24 hour race course marks was dragged from its position near Mannering Park into the shallows.

Post event, the decision was made that given the unique nature of the 12 and 24 hour race, the marks needed to be tracked. One name came to mind for a tracking solution... it was Yellowbrick

Oracle Team USA have capsized their AC72 while training on Day 8 in San Francisco. Reports are still coming in as to the extent of the damage however there were apparently no serious injuries to the crew. The 72ft catamaran pitchpoled,during a bearaway. See the recovery on live video... [more]

Joe Adams murdered in Phillipines

One of Australia's best know yacht designers Joe Adams, has been murdered in the Philippines, according to the latest wire-reports 81 year Adams was apparently killed on Sunday, with his throat slashed and his body was found by his gardener at his home in thecity of Baguio, which is in Benguet Province, in the country's north.... America's Cup: Emirates Team NZ sailing in 35kt winds

Emirates Team New Zealand completed a five hour sailing and testing session, apparently without mishap today in winds that gusted over 35kts. Winds averaged 26kts at Bean Rock at the entrance to the Waitemata Harbour. The winds peaked at midday before easing. Real time observations in the area have the winds at 28kts, gusting 36kts.... The 2012-2013 Australian 18ft Skiff Season got underway on Sydney Harbour today when the Australian 18 Footers League conducted Race 1 of the 8-race 3-Buoys Challenge series over a four lap windward-return course. Tom Clout, Matthew Wark and Rob Bell (Pure Blonde) excelled in the 10-knot SE breeze to score a convincing 1m28s win after taking the lead on the second lap of the course.... [more]
