Marine Park impact, Thurley to manufacture Clipper, 5000th Riv

To paraphrase the tagline of 'The Nake City': there are millions of stories in a coastal town and today, we bring you just one of them.

Batemans Bay  .. ©

This is the first-person account of a professional prawning family - the briefest insight in to life in a quiet town, reliant on its fishing and prawning for income, tourism and to keep the commerce of town flowing. My thank to Esmay Hropic for her candour and hope it brings home how misplaced are many of the Marine Parks rulings.

We also have a follow up from the Gold Coast International Marine Expo, not just charting sales and leads, but also emerging consumer trends and how the boating industry can capitalise on them.

Mercury Ground breaking ceremony in Wisconsin.  Mercury Marine

There's positive news from Mercury in the US, following its announcement of a $20 investment in the head office facilities in Wisconsin.

Locally, Brett Thurley, from Clipper Motor Yachts Australia, has announced a strategic move into manufacturing, having purchased the design, tooling and molds for the range of Clipper semi-displacement motor yachts. It's a joint equity venture with the Fuhua Shipbuilding yard in China and with Mark Campion who has managed all Clipper production under former ownership in China and was a founder and partner in the original Clipper Motor Yachts International. Our congratulations and heartiest wishes for a great future!

We have the pictures and moving tribute to the grand Riviera brand, which celebrates its 5000th vessel off the production line during the GC Expo. CEO, Wes Moxey, said the launch of Riviera's 5000th boat which took pride of place beside the first Riviera model was one of the most rewarding experiences in his entire career. Owners, staff, media and guests were equally touched.

Marine13 in April is not far away now, given it's nearly the end of 2012. Organisers are encouraging marine related businesses to get onboard and exhibit at what will be Australia's first international marine industry trade show, 28-30 April 2013 in Sydney, to reach a wave of new prospective clients and partners who will attend this inaugural event.

And, there are many more new products, great gadgets and safety gear in time for the holidays so read on and swing by throughout the week for news as it happens.

Happy boating!
