MarineBusiness-world goes multilingual, and a world of marine news

Welcome, Willkommen, Bienvenido, Bienvenue, Welkom and more than 61 languages, now spoken across the TetraMedia marine sites. That includes all the Sail-World sites, MarineBusiness-world, Powerboat-world and FishingBoating-world.

The TetraMedia group is now as diverse as its global readership, 2.2 million over 13 sites. Our massive archive of nearly 107,000 stories are all accessible in 61 languages, spoken in the 140+ countries we reach.

It's our aim to be most reliable marine news media group in the world, with the very best specialist marine word and phrase language indexes in the world.

SW Translation image

The benefits for our advertisers is huge, particularly as Asia and the Middle Eas become increasingly important. We already have high-powered indexes for Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Polish, Italian and Dutch, as well as some limited Greek and Turkish. We are currently working on Arabic, Chinese-Mandarin and Thai. Korean will be next.

To this point, most non-English speaking sailors looking at boating news worldwide use generic automated foreign language translation. This service falls well short of a fluent human translator, who is also au fait with marine terms.

This project has taken two years, thanks largely to the work of our IT whiz, Jedda Murphy, during which time, the Tetra team has added over 900 sailing and general marine words and phrases into or own exclusive Google translation table glossaries in those languages specified above.

This week, we also delve in to the array of new products launched in Miami, which by all accounts was a great show and endured no inclement conditions this year. There's an update from ASMEX 2013, which will features the Shadow Minister for Tourism and Regional Development, the Hon Bob Baldwin MP, outlining the Opposition's strategy for marine in the tourism and manufacturing mix - crucial in the lead up to the Federal Election, 14 September.

What a blooper! Syd Fischer's maxi, Ragamuffin, harnesses a tropical trade wind off Hamilton Island using a blooper as well as a spinnaker  Sandy Peacock

Want more? Well, there's plenty, including images from the inaugural Hamilton Island Race Week, racing, social and mucking about in boats, from way back in in the 80s, courtesy of yachtie, photographer, journo and creative director extraordinaire, Sandy Peacock. They will soon be up on the regatta site for all to enjoy, so standby.

From our friends at Clipper, great news of the launch of the new Explorer series of traditional pilothouse, long range, offshore motor yachts, ranging from 50 to 70 feet. This new range offers customisation at a level usually only available to buyers of much larger boats.

Clipper Explorer 50 HR  Clipper Motor Yachts

The first model in the Clipper Explorer series is the pilothouse 50. The first vessel is already sold and the second boat will start build later this year. You will get your opportunity to view some of the great Clipper models as well as Jeanneau and Prestige motoryachts at the upcoming Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, where Brett Thurley and his team will have a prominent on-water display.

Marine13 is fast approaching, 28-30 April, in Sydney, addressing among other things, the barriers to getting in to recreational boating, in a first-time collaboration the Boating Industries Alliance Australia (BIAA) and Yachting Australia (YA), with an expert panel to examine not only the factors holding back participation but also strategies to grow the number of boaters across the various boating sectors (sail, power and passive). It's a great business-building program, so check out the details at www.marine13.com

Plenty more - events, launches, new products, people, places and technology. Each and every day, so visit often.
