Racing news from Canada and the world!

Lots of racing action in Miami, Florida this past week, it all started with the Bacardi Miami Sailing Week in Biscayne Bay where the Olympic class Star were back competing for the Bacardi Cup for the 86th time. Americans Mendelblatt and Fatih won the cup on their home waters, Brian Cramer and Cam Lymburner posted the best Canadian results finishing 15th in a fleet of 56.

Mississauga's Port Credit Yacht Club Melges 20 owners displayed good form in the 50 strong fleet; Rob and Sandy Butler on Touch2Play were top Canadian team while Jon Messenger's Black Sheep won the corinthian division. Finally, congratulations to Sarnia's Lee Shuckerow on Jackpot who, with four bullets over nine races, won the Viper 640 class.

Big boats were racing just around the corner as Biscayne Bay Yacht Club played host to the Gaastra 52 World Championships where ten TP52's team competed in a strict owner-driver series. Niklas Zennström, well known Skype founder, demonstrated his ability at the helm by leading Rán Racing to the top of the scoreboard.

In Muscat, it was down to the final race to determine the Extreme Sailing Act 1 series winner; only two points separated Red Bull Sailing from The Wave on Friday morning. After a perfect race by Leigh McMillan on the Oman entry, Red Bull Sailing had to concede the win to defending champions The Wave, Muscat by a small margin. Next stop in Singapore, April 11th to 14th.

Finally, congratulations to Luke Ramsay, Sail Canada Sailor of the Month for February, after an outstanding performance in the Laser Mid-Winters in Clearwater, Florida,

All the best!
