Of foiling behemoths, Sydney Hobart record, Lord Howe and Twitter

We often use it when referring to very large boats like the 145 footer Marie Cha, or Paul Allen's mega-yacht the 414 foot Octopus but it struck us today that Larry Ellison´s foiling AC72 Oracle USA is also well described as a behe-moth. (get it?)

The behemoth was videoed again by an independent cameraman who captured the AC72 training on San Francisco Bay. The America's Cup Defender had her best day foiling so far seen.

As skipper helm Jimmy Spithill emphasised in his interview with us that we published on Wednesday, Oracle USA now has wheel steering rather than tiller, which allows him better ability to control the boat, as it comes on and off the foil.

The 39th Hempel Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race 2013 starts on April 6th and the Race Committee is seeking interest from skippers of Cat 1 ready yachts as a possible replacement due to the unfortunate entry withdrawal last night of the race record holder VO60 Merit from this year's event. Merit was to occupy one of the coveted deep draft moorings in the South Passage at Lord Howe at the conclusion of this year's race.

If you are not into Twitter, you might not know that it's THE fast breaking news source, when the Argentinian cardinal was elected Pope, the first news was not on the live covering TV news from around the world but on Twitter.

Twitter is an excellent social and fast news media tool. The Sail-world twitter feed was breaking all the news during Sean Langman´s Team Australia record. Our tweets are often retweeted to big lists around the world.

@sailworldnews - is our world feed, the rest of the titles are pretty obvious
@sailworldaus
@sailworldcruising
@powerboatworld
@marinebusinessworld
@fishingboatingworld

Between those and another seven of our regional site twitter feeds, we already have 7,000 followers and that number is growing at close to 20% per month. Yes that is twenty percent per month. It's not a big number when you consider our overall traffic at 220,000 readers per month but its multichannel 24x7 news like this that make Sail-world the largest sailing news source in the world

If you need to reach the largest marine audience in the world talk to us about Sail-World advertising packages, email us at advertising@sail-world.com and we'll call you.
