Records match races and AC news—Sailing news from the U.S. and beyond

'It's so fantastic to be here and to raise such superb amounts for the Race charity, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust,' said Jasper Berens of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, the event's title sponsor. 'It was a vintage year in terms of weather and the racing. The fact that Ben and his team on J.P. Morgan BAR achieved the Round the Island race multihull record, just topped it off.'

And in match-racing circles, Mathieu Richard (FRA) beat out Taylor Canfield (USVI) 2-0 in the Korea Match Cup's Finals. 'It was a do or die situation, but we had them [the French] on the ropes for most of the pre-start,' said Canfield. 'It all came down to that last decision, and unfortunately it didn't go right for me.'

For Richard, this win marks his second victory at this prestigious event. 'I think both victories were fantastic for us,' said Richard. 'We are a new team with a new sponsor and our team work was very good, and we stayed calm, we showed good mental strength through the knock-out stages.' Get the full scoop, inside.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco, the AC72s have been out playing in the big breeze. Skipper Jimmy Spithill of Oracle Team USA posted a couple of humorous photos of himself curiously swimming in San Francisco Bay on his Facebook page over the weekend, and there's plenty of great Am-Cam imagery of the boats practicing their bear-away maneuvers and demonstrating their always-impressive foiling capabilities. Check out the full video gallery, inside.

And for fans of the Red Bull Youth America's Cup, the American Youth Sailing Force has reportedly logged some great training hours on San Francisco Bay with the help of Oracle Team USA's trainers and coaches. 'The boats are pretty wild in all wind conditions but when the breeze is on, the boat becomes a different animal,' said team manager Ian Andrews. 'You have to be on top of everything and the forgiveness factor is way down. One small mistake can ruin everything.'

May the four winds blow you safely home,
