Record numbers expected on Australia´s Northern Circuit

Queensland's highest profile grand prix yacht racing team has upped the ante with th highly regarded Volvo 70 Telefonica being modified for IRC racing in Australia. Motor racing legend Sir Jack Brabham, a close friend of Black Jack's owner Peter Harburg, christened the boat with champagne last Saturday and she is now heading south for the start of the Sydney Gold Coast Race.

Overseas, it's been a glorious week of European Summer weather and at the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, racing is underway with three Australian crews ending day one in top four positions, in Limassol, Cyprus.

More than 350 sailors from 61 nations began racing across eight classes on Monday. At the end of the opening day the Australian Sailing Youth Team's 420 girl's crew of Carrie Smith and Ella Clark lead, with SL16 pair Paul Darmanin and Lucy Copeland third and Harry Price and Angus Williams fourth in the 29er.

Simon Reffold updates us on the Red Bull Youth America's Cup. It's just a few weeks to go until the Objective Australia team will be touching down in San Francisco – ready to start their month of hard training ahead of September's Red Bull Youth America's Cup.

Unlike some of their competitors who are aligned with existing America's Cup teams, Objective Australia does not have access to the AC45s in which the Youth America's Cup will be raced. Instead they have been focussing on their individual sailing pursuits, all with great success. You can catch the full news below.

Malcolm Parker (skipper), Jack Nairn and William Dargaville (crew) members of The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Youth Development squad are in the USA lying the RPAYC burgee at the 47th Annual Governor's Cup, hosted by Balboa Yacht Club taking place this week (16-21 July).

Louis Vuitton Cup: Light airs give Italians a useful workout
Luna Rossa Challenge 2013,
Today Luna Rossa Challenge raced alone for the second time in the Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robin; its scheduled opponent, Artemis Racing, is still preparing its AC72, expected to be ready by the end of July. Due to the extremely light wind conditions, the Italian team sailed the 5-legs race course in 43 minutes, 6 seconds, at an average speed of 17 knots, reaching a maximum speed of 26.37 knots.... The 2013 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team have returned more solid results from Day 2 of the Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships on now in Limassol, Cyprus. The New Zealand crews are now all within the top six of their respective fleets with Isaac McHardie (Hamilton Yacht Club) and Micah Wilkinson (Ngaroto Sailing Club) still leading the SL16 event... Louis Vuitton Cup: Softly, softly catchee monkey . . .

It was nothing more (nor less) than an exercise in sailing an AC-72 in light airs when the Luna Rossa crew graced San Francisco Bay with their elegant silver and red boat for an hour on a grey Tuesday afternoon.
