Canadian Sailing Team, ESS and other sailing news!

Setanta crew - LO300C PHRF Winner  Sarah Danahy

Also on Lake Ontario, Kingston plays host to the 2013 Laser North Americans this year. Wrapping up today, the event was scheduled just ahead of the CORK annual series of regattas, which begins August 9th with the CORK International Optimist Regatta. Stay with us for all the details and results throughout August.

2013 Laser North American Championship  Canadian Sailing Team

Canadian Sailing Team members were somewhat scattered around the world in July. Although Laser and Radials sailors were home racing in the Laser North Americans at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, while their 49er and 49er FX colleagues were just around the corner at the Kingston Yacht Club for the Canadian Championships, the recently formed 'One Team, One Dream' duo who have joined force in the Nacra 17 mixed multihull were enjoying their first international competition at the Nacra 17 World Championship in Holland. Earlier in the month, junior team members were in Cyprus for the ISAF Youth Worlds

In San Francisco, Emirates Team New Zealand keeps accumulating precious Louis Vuitton Cup points but Artemis finally has a boat in the water; we might not witness an end to ETNZ's domination any time soon but, hopefully, these races with a single yacht on the course will be a thing of the past. I find it more exciting to watch the action in the Extreme Sailing Series; Act 5 in Porto was again chockfull of action this past week.

Finally, crews from the biggest and best offshore yachts around the world are getting for the Rolex Fastnet Race; interestingly, one third of the 351 strong fleet hail from ports outside the UK this year. The start in Cowes is set for Sunday August 11th; I fully expect the 13-foot trimaran Spindrift 2 to repeat their 2011 feat and be the first multihull entry to complete the course but the outcome is not so certain within monohulls, many previous course record-holders are back to defend their achievements.

All the best!
